Overview: Perched on the bluffs of a Great Lake and straddling a crooked river, the Forest City is defined by its natural assets and history of industrial innovation. The Detroit-Superior Bridge stands as
a strong defining element on the city’S skyline, its grander tied to the wealth and population of the city’s industrial past.

As environmental stewardship becomes paramount, it is important that we celebrate milestones of environmental achievement such as the Clean Water Act of 1972. Cleveland’s infamous burning river
played a prominent role leading to the sustainability movement and it inspires this endeavor.

The proposal builds on the success of the RTA HealthLine, which connects the Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals to Public Square. The top deck bridge traffic is reserved to the new
HealthLine West, connecting the downtown to the West Side Market and Metro Hospital. Cyclists & pedestrians share the top deck, and are surrounded by vegetated rain gardens that capture and
treat storm water before depositing it into the river. Automobile traffic is transferred entirely to the lower level.

Cleveland’s Main Street will finally bridge the community together and redefine the city as a world class leader for a physically healthy, ecologically and financially sustainable future.
