2012: Transforming the Bridge | 12232

Overview: The project Upandown born from an observation of the city’s skyline: the diversity of the buildings makes it interesting profile that we see in the sky. This is the force that we wanted to keep in framing a new vision of the Detroit Superior Bridge: the volumes follow each other in their pure geometry
at different scales, forming a seamless environment that grows linearly until it reaches the central part of the bridge, where the development volumetric occurs downward, giving rise to a positive-negative opposition of the project, which alternates between the various segments of the bridge. Functions one after another, side by side, like a mosaic whose pieces are flanked in an order that is not random but natural. Pedestrian connections, arranged in the middle lane, are interrupted only by the functions, which are distributed along the axis of the bridge: recreation areas and restaurants alternate with green spaces and commercial who set about to become, in the central part of the bridge places for music and cultural activities. Small squares and halls are crossed by the flow of people, appropriately directional path which is implemented under the viaduct. Bicycle crossing paths are intended for outdoor areas, ready to go back and change direction all the time.
