2012: Transforming the Bridge | 12189

Overview: The Detroit-Superior Bridge in downtown Cleveland is a historical and iconic figure for the Cuyahoga River and surrounding areas. This has been the connecting figure for Ohio City and Cleveland for nearly a century. This function and mode of transportation has helped stimulate the economic prosperity of the surrounding area.
The bridge is one of many iconic figures with in the City of Cleveland and the Cuyahoga River valley. As the bridge peaks looking over the neighboring area, the vast views give us all a chance to recognize these iconic figures from and unusual position. Not only does one see images of the past, but current figures.
My design has celebrated these views by capturing the ÒpicturesqueÓ moments. While passing through the bridge the views are strategically framed as one-point perspectives. To help accentuate the moment, lighting is placed off the bridge at the location of the view to create a picture like feel.
Keeping the main function of the bridge is an essential part of the design. As the views are the main contributing change to the design of the bridge there are many other amenities that build upon the idea.
